Route of Jackson Hole 'World Cup downhill?

I'm not sure of the exact years the downhill was run, but it looks like Franz Klammer won in 1975.  The run "downhill" is obviously a part of the race, but is pretty short in length.  Where did the rest of the race go?

Ten Sleep Bowl into the Amphitheater via Downhill to Gros Ventre.  Finish below the bottom of FIS Slalom.

The entry to Gros Ventre from the Amphitheater was forever changed in the mid-80's by a slow creeping avalanche/mudslide that came off Casper (Similar to the current line of the Marmot Chair, which wasn't there at the time).  Almost took out the base of the old Thunder Chair, as it crept past.  It left a massive amount of earth debris, changing the terrain at the Amphitheater/Gros Ventre connection , which made shussinng from the Amphitheater to Gros Ventre impossible.

Hence, the JH World Cup Downhill track no longer exists.

Recollection is the Jackson Hole Ski Area (Paul McCollister) was pushing for the World Championships to be held in the late 70s - The agreement for the Champs with the FIS fell through.  He told 'em (FIS) to screw and vowed to never run a FIS race there again.  Although truly a world class track, the last WC at JH was in '75.

Eventually, in the mid 80's, St John's and Moran / Warner on Apres Vous Mountain were FIS  Homologated.  Since then, numerous FIS races including the US National DH have been run on Moran / Warner, which includes an infamous jump to fly over the Togwotee Pass Traverse.

Thanks for the info, whygimf.  I've never heard of the mudslide before.  I would think it would've filled in Dick's Ditch, but I don't see how a slide could've made it from Casper over to the base of Thunder chair (do you mean 'Cascade' run instead of 'Casper' chairlift?).

The Moran/Warner route looks tame in comparison to Tensleep/Ampitheatre/Gros Ventre.  A couple of years ago they groomed Downhill for a while, and you could get some major speed off it.
