Thread Starter

Feb 6  New Zealand .My mate and I in get up at 4am to fly to Salt Lake City via Sydney Australia, and LAX

Feb 6  USA  Arrive in  SLC and pick up the rental car then drive to Twin Falls optimistically stopping at a place called Snowville Utah, for dinner on the way

Feb 7  We drive to and ski at Sun Valley and stay the night in Ketchum   Bluebird day and a great mountain

Feb 8  Ski at Sun Valley then drive to Driggs that night through a real thick pea soup fog.Thank God for the GPS showing us the shape of the road ahead

Feb 9  Ski at Grand Targhee ,I love that place, then drive to Jackson

Feb 10  Ski at JH  Bluebird, hard and fast. Just like home

Feb 11  Ski at JH, then hearing there may be snow heading to the Wasatch Mountains we drive down to Ogden

Feb 12  Ski at Powder Mountain, taking a couple of rides in the cat to get some freshies. Thanks Kevin and Nate for the advice on where to ski   We have a drink or two at the Powder Keg as we have a bar at our home ski field also called the Powder Keg

Feb 13 Ski at Snowbasin  Bluebird day ,then drive back to Driggs as there is snow in the forecast

Feb 14 Ski at GT with a few inches of freshies and low viz

Feb 15 Ski the tree lines for half a day at GT in less viz than yesterday and then drive to SLC as there is snow forecast down there

Feb 16 Ski Alta enjoying both The High Rustler and the slopes under the High Traverse

Feb 17 Ski at Snowbird and really enjoy being second into Mineral Basin when they open it for the first time in a couple of days

Feb 18 Head to ski at Solitude but get beaten away by the storm that takes all the power out of BCC for a couple of days

Feb 19 Supposed to be driving all day to Breckenridge today ,to meet five other mates from NZ but there is ten inches of freshies reported at Canyons. Head there and do the short hike to the top of the Ninety Nine 90  Beautiful, decent freshies at last ,but really only there at the top and by the time we get back up there its all chewed up.Have a great day there but can't get over to Park City for a look due to the storm damage to the link Gondola . Get in the car at the end of the day and head towards Breckenridge only to find out the I70 is shut at the Glenwood Canyon. Stay at a place called Parachute

Feb 20  Heard the road might be open later tonight so we decide to head to Snowmass for the day  A great day had by all but a lot of the snow has been blown clean off the top of the mountain by the storm. Its still windy but theres more than plenty of wind blown snow to keep us happy.Sheer Bliss lives up to its name and theres also a great Taco caravan at the base of it  Get off the mountain a the end of the day to find out the I 70 is still shut so we have to drive to Breck via Rifle,Craig and Steamboat. Arrive at Breck at 11 pm

Feb 21 Ski at  Breckenridge having a great day blasting the groomers with our mates

Feb 22 Ski A Basin  Its seriously cold and by the afternnoon the light is flat so we play arond in the trees.Love the terrain this place has has to offer, it so much like one of our fields at home.Drive to Avon

Feb 23 Ski Beaver Creek ski the Birds of Prey before it gets too chewed up.How do the racers do that run at full speed??

Feb 24 and 25 Ski Vail Once we found our way around we enjoyed Blue Sky Basin and the Game Creek express area

Feb 26 Ski Beaver Creek again, then drive to Aspen .Thankfully the road is open

Feb 27 Ski at Highlands and hike The Bowl twice !! Awesome conditions in the bowl.Blown away by the guys and girls doing the Power of Four race. They hiked pass us like we were standing still and they had already been to the top of Snowmass and Buttermilk

Feb 28  We head to Aspen Mountain for a day of groomers with the Copper Bowl area skiing pretty well

Feb 29  Back to Snowmass until about 3 pm when we have to head back to the condo to pack and clean up before flying out of Aspen at 7 PM

March 2  Flying home we cross the International date line and arrive home at 3pm after leaving Aspen 24 hrs earlier

 Go to bed and sleep.....

It was a great trip.We met some really great people who were more than happy to point us in the right directions on every mountain we visited. On one gondola ride we met 6 individuals who had all been to New Zealand!!

We didn't get the big deep freshies that the USA reportably gets, but had great days at all the resorts we visited ,with the bluebird days and friendly people  making up for it.

We did 2600 miles on our trip. You might think we are mad, but we regularly have to drive 3-4 hrs to get to and from our local ski field , so its nothing for us to get off the slopes and then drive home over similar distances that we have done on this trip

We used the Epic local pass and the MCP  We only had to pay for Pow Mow, Snow Basin and Targhee

My next trip will probably be to somewhere where I fly into and stay for a week or two...

We missed seeing you in Aspen at this year's Gathering, but, you sure did come up with a great alternative plan. All that driving is a little insane, but, it is a very interesting read.

Thumbs UpThumbs Up..

Thanks for the trip report.  Way to make use of multi-destination passes!  Powder chasing is always hard, but sounds like you had some pretty fun days.

It does not sound like they had time to take pictures... a jam packed ski holiday.
