Salomon boot flex: difference between man and woman boots ?

Thread Starter

My wife replaced her old Xwaves with a newer pair of Salomon Instinct CS.

The X-waves were men`s model with a 90 flex, the Instincts are women specific and are also advertised as flex 90.

She has noticed that the Instincts seem quite a lot softer than the X-waves, so she wondered if the same flex number for men and women specific boots might be different.

She also thinks the newer plastic used on the Instincts is more sensitive to temperature change, meaning the boots soften (too much to her liking) in less cold temperatures.

As she would prefer a stiffer boot (she`s a strong skier), would she be better to look at men's boots ?

flex index numbers are a guess a best, and dont correlate to anything in reality.   yes 80 is softer then 130, but it changes brand to brand and even within a brand.

go by feel, and if you are not sure, go stiffer as it can be made softer later
