This year 2015/16 I'm listing the defective skis I've run across --
-- 2014/15 Blizzard World Cup SL Junior race stock -- TWISTED (base does not sit flat) -- manufacturer replacement with 2015/2016 ski
-- 2015/16 Blizzard World Cup SL Junior race stock -- this is the replacement pair -- TWISTED (base does not sit flat) -- Waiting on Blizz
-- Volkl 2015/16 World Cup GS Racetiger Junior Race Stock -- TWISTED (base does not sit flat) -- Waiting on Volkl; UPDATE -- Volkl replaced the ski WITH ANOTHER PAIR THAT ARE TWISTED. Video of the replacement pair is above.
-- 2015/16 Rossignol Hero 151 GS Junior Race Stock -- De-lamination -- ski parts popping out of base -- Rossi replacement 2015/16 ski
-- 2013 Rossi Radical GS (New jan 16 unused old stock) -- De-lamination -- ski edge key popping out next to edge (bumpitybumpitybump) -- Waiting on Rossi
Let me say it's great to get a replacement ski, however... I almost always have a lot of time in these skis:
1. base grind the ski to establish a .75 or .5 base bevel;
2. plane the sidewalls;
3. set the side edges at 4 degrees
4. put in multiple wax cycles in preparation for race day. Typically 3-4 wax, 1 train, 3-4 wax 1 train, then train wax sharpen for each outing.
In the case of the Rossi Hero 151 GS this year the first delam came right before the second race of the season, right when I had it set up perfectly. The second delam occurred after its second race.... Again, after it was setup perfectly. I like these skis (one 1st, two 2nd and three 4th results), but seriously? I have more money & time in the setup of these skis than the value of the skis. I looked at a used 2014 151 GS on Sunday planning on using as a training ski -- but it had the same edge key delam problem I had on one of mine.
Hmmm anyone see a pattern here with Rossi?
I modified my waxing process to use the SKIMD Proglide system, pushing wax into the ski, then two very quick hot iron passes to melt, in an effort to reduce heat exposure to the ski construction glues, but using this system, the second Rossi edge key still popped. I figured I'd try a Volkl GS to get away from the Rossi delam's ... Ordered a 15/16 Volkl Racetiger GS... pulled off the wrapper yesterday... One of the skis is twisted. Are you F$&^%)(*_(*_(&%^$@#@ kidding me?
Championship races in 10 days.... No pristine GS skis and I need a replacement Rossi and Volkl. Awesome...
Anyone have any defect issues to report in their skis?
Tuning tips to address these problems?
