Well, it wasn't an epic day of skiing, but skiing I did, to mark my 44th consecutive ski season.
It has been a tough winter, actually a tough year since last summer when I broke out with a major eczema outbreak. I have suffered from eczema since a child, but it was usually small patches of dry itchy skin, that I could easily deal with. This time though, I broke out over 90% of my body. With so much of my skin affected, my body was not regulating temperature well especially cold temps. Plus whenever I went out in the cold, my skin would get worse. Exercise is out of the question as sweat irritates my skin, again making it worse. Put a real damper on my ski season, especially since I was psyched to compete in my race league with not one, but two new pairs of race skis!! Well, they will keep till next season, but I was afraid that I would not even get out on the snow. I already had to cancel ski plans with my daughter at Killington. I was beginning to accept that I might not continue my active ski season streak of 43 consecutive seasons. But over the past couple of weeks, I was beginning to get some relief on my skin, and this past weekend was unseasonably warm, so I figured it is now or never, so I packed up the car and drove to Peak N Peak in Western NY and got in a couple of hours of skiing in some slushy snow. But skiing it was, and I now have secured my 44th consecutive ski season, even if I don't get out again this year.
Hopefully my eczema will go into remission again soon, and I can concentrate on getting back into shape to make next ski season, my 45th the best ever!!
In the meanwhile, I will continue to read about all of your snow exploits and live vicariously through you guys!
