Finally Got On Snow! Been a tough Winter, health wise.

Well, it wasn't an epic day of skiing, but skiing I did, to mark my 44th consecutive ski season.

It has been a tough winter, actually a tough year since last summer when I broke out with a major eczema outbreak.  I have suffered from eczema since a child, but it was usually small patches of dry itchy skin, that I could easily deal with.  This time though, I broke out over 90% of my body.  With so much of my skin affected, my body was not regulating temperature well especially cold temps.  Plus whenever I went out in the cold, my skin would get worse.  Exercise is out of the question as sweat irritates my skin, again making it worse.  Put a real damper on my ski season, especially since I was psyched to compete in my race league with not one, but two new pairs of race skis!!  Well, they will keep till next season, but I was afraid that I would not even get out on the snow.  I already had to cancel ski plans with my daughter at Killington.  I was beginning to accept that I might not continue my active ski season streak of 43 consecutive seasons.  But over the past couple of weeks, I was beginning to get some relief on my skin, and this past weekend was unseasonably warm, so I figured it is now or never, so I packed up the car and drove to Peak N Peak in Western NY and got in a couple of hours of skiing in some slushy snow.  But skiing it was, and I now have secured my 44th consecutive ski season, even if I don't get out again this year.

Hopefully my eczema will go into remission again soon, and I can concentrate on getting back into shape to make next ski season, my 45th the best ever!!

In the meanwhile, I will continue to read about all of your snow exploits and live vicariously through you guys!

Ski On!

Glad you checked in Rick.  I noticed you were quiet around here this winter.  That ski day we had together last winter at Breck still rates as one of my all time best.  Stay optimistic and keep working to get better because you got many more days like that left in your gas tank.

James, thanks for the encouraging words.  I certainly plan on skiing many more days and seasons.

The really hard part dealing with this skin issue, is not having an injury to prevent me from skiing.  It is difficult to accept that just a skin condition can debilitate to you so much to prevent you from doing things that you love.  My father told me that I was hospitalized when I was just a toddler for a similar outbreak.  It eventually went into remission so I remain hopeful.

And yes, that day we skied Breck was one of my all time best as well!  Here is a little memory boost.
