Visiting family and went back to the scene of the crime. Alyeska has received over 630" of snow on the upper mtn. But hardly any at the base this season. It has snowed about 2 feet during the two days prior but high winds had closed the mtn down the day before we arrived. It was snowing while we were there. About 8" of wet fresh, with a smidge of wind crust on top. I demo'd some K2 Petitor's in a 179cm length. Decent ski for the condition.
The sun poked out now and again. No gates to ski the North Face due to high avy dangers. So it was all inbounds and upper mtn skiing.
Temps have been above average for the year. Right now Fur Rondy is going on in Anchorage. They had to truck in snow for a shortened sled dog race competition. Normally it's 3 days of 25 miles each day. But it was shortened to just a 3 mile sprint each day. Ugh! Hopefully next year they get a proper winter. I'll be back for sure if that's the case.
