Thread Starter

Hi,

I'll be at Heavenly / Kirkwood this Sunday for a week. I am wondering if any you can provides a "real picture" of the current skiing conditions. According to Heavenly the conditions are fantastic.

Thanks

Stephane

Kirkwood and the upper half of Heavenly are the right places to be in Tahoe when it's warm for snow preservation.  Also Mt. Rose.

Spring skiing for most of your trip.  Sunday/Monday may have some clouds to goof it up, but the remainder of the time looks like 100% sun.  Assuming you like to ski off-piste, the corn snow it should be really good.  Just follow the sun around the mountain.  The entire mountain is open and completely covered with snow.

Was at Heavenly Friday 2/19/16 and Kirkwood on 2/20/16.  Base doesn't get much better at 7'-8'.

Here's a short video of Kirkwood from 2/20/16:

We had fresh snow 2 and 3 days prior, but the week before a very advanced friend was there and said conditions were

very spring like and reported it was good fun skiing, but could use some freshening up (which we got).

I'd check the weather, someone said full sun, but I thought I saw in the 10 day forecast clouds, sun, and rain/snow all being in the forecast.

Thus, you never know what you'll get for with the forecast I saw.  Just keep in mind, as typical for March skiing, different runs/slopes can be very different depending on the high's overnight lows, sun exposure level, and steepness and  direction of the slope.  Just ask some of the local workers for some tips for the particular day/time of day....

Yea.... NWS changed the forecast today to be better this weekend but it now includes a new storm next thursday.  Probably not big enough to be a full-on reset, just enough to goof up the corn cycle.

I was at Kirkwood 2/21/16 and it was warm but not corn-snow.  A bit icy early in the shade but still had grip and better as the sun hit the slope.

More like mashed potatoes.
