We are from the MidAtlantic, and are crazy-lucky enough to have bought an awesome vintage truck in Idaho. We are very excited! We are flying out next week to pick it up, and are equally lucky enough to have a couple of weeks to drive it back home.
We are both solid skiers, and are perfectly competent and happy skiing groomers (steep, narrow, whatever) everywhere. No real desire to go off piste, ski the trees, or risk fracturing body parts in search of fresh pow off a cliff! We have fun playing front side in bounds anywhere on the mountain, but we're kind of old and lazy, so we're all up for stopping for lunch or a beer after a few hours and then continuing on.
So we are planning on a couple of days in Sun Valley after we pick up the truck in Boise, and then heading to Jackson Hole for a few days after.
Since we were kind of on the northern route cross country, I thought Vail would be a nice third stop for a couple of days, but Holy #$%*!-- the lodging prices gave me a coronary. Nothing less than $400 a night.
Anyone have any suggestions for a Colorado hill for us for a few days, mid-week skiing, between Jackson Hole and Chicago?
It's just the two of us, and we are unapologetic foodies, and into wine and a variety of beer. We are looking for a great happy hour and quality meal after we are done skiing for the day, somewhere in town. Don't need nightlife. Would be nice to have a fireplace to kick our feet up in the room/cabin, and a hot tub to soak in somewhere on the property.
We have done Steamboat, and had an absolute blast, but are looking for someplace different. Any ideas for a mountain with mid-week lodging for a couple hundred dollars a night?
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
