OK..GUT PUNCH....found hairline crack on my beloved B5i's!!

Got back from a day out and during wipe down found a hairline crack on one of the edges on my Atomic B5i's..I LOVE these skiis so much..after google fu'ing, not much I could do but maybe epoxy/Araldite and keep on the outside edge? I hate the thought of losing them...I am 235 or so, 55 years old, love high lean carving the hardpack, these skiis are/were wonderful......Currently in VA, get to Mt Snow every now and then...Is there anyone that can perform magic on these, or?

If they are basket cases or unsafe I guess I need to find a replacement..oh why did you stop making these? unlikely i'll be finding another set anywhere...

I can't advise you about the possibility of repair, but I can tell you that no matter how much you love your skis there are always new skis out there that you'll love even more. Just ask Donald Trump how that works.

Looks like just a good base repair to me.  Could be a slight delam under that.  IDK, hard to tell what I'm seeing.  If that's an edge crack just file it smooth and ski some more.

can you feel it when you ski it?

VCE  "Variable Cracked Edge" was a marketing slogan in the 70s!

You may just be experiencing DaJa Vu all over again.

After you mentioned that I looked really closely under a bright light and yes, they appear to be delaminating..so they are toast..thanks for pointing that out!!

I am going to have to find a replacement..man I skiied great one those things..effortless turning....its funny they are falling apart..I only get 7-10 days a year...

I know my brother has a pair of B5s stashed away in his garage that he hasn't skied in years (keeps them for a loaner if ever needed).  He's about 200# so skis may be about same size as yours.  Should I ask him if he wants to sell 'em?

If you got them in 2006 that's still 50-70 days... not bad at all.

Mexico will buy him B5's?

There's life after the B5's. What size are they?

Still a good chance the base can be fixed with a cut out.  Fix them and save them for 'rock" skis, or grass, what ever you have there.

I just was given a pair with Neox bindings.  I will fix them up and ski them.  They can be adjusted to almost any boot, so I will use them as loaners too.

Feast your eyes on these.  Old, but hardly used.  I treasure these.  I am the only owner. Bought them out of a closet never mounted!   Ceramic impregnated base where they get worked the most. 13M turn with 63MM waist.

These are not the ones just given to me.

That is some odd Atomic ski. It is not a B5 Metron.   Don't remember Atomic Ambition?? B5 only came in a 152, 162 and 172. And I liked the 162 the best! I even sold my 172's and it is the pair that MG8 is showing that delamed, of course I sold them to him in pristine condition quite a number of years ago!

You are indeed observant!  These are Asian market skis that ended up here somehow.  I do love them.  All they like to do is carve!

Looks kind of like an Atomic C9 with more sidecut and a real binding instead of that dumb Device system.

Lucky I got those bindings from an Atomic dealer.  The heal had a recall and they were fixed already.  Never had an issue with them and like the way they can slide forward or rearward.  The skis are quite stiff which I like.  Hard to see but 13m radius.   I am on them for the second part of this video.
