Most accounts I have read in this thread top my worst cold day but I wanted to describe how I survived a windy just 5 above 0 F day at Mad River Glen:
NO AIR LEAKS!
Two pairs of socks (my boots had the room) and layers like crazy! But most important was a scarf tucked into a decent ski jacket collar, the faux fur and leather face mask, wool hat and my Smith Goggles to seal the deal!
I still have the pair of old school two part mittens from then: real wool inners and heavy leather outers. Grouping the fingers in the mitten to me is better then individual glove fingers for extreme cold.
<-- cold but comfortable smile emogie
This is what I say to 5 ABOVE:
Oh, and be careful you don't hang yourself with your scarf.
