Renting cars is a good idea if you have different plans as most "to do" things are a bit of a drive. Would inquire if the rental car company has national park passes you can use, otherwise you'll need to pay to enter the national park. (don't just sidestep the gate if you don't have a pass or haven't paid....lots of people get pulled over near the ski hill entrances as they have rangers checking and handing out tickets).
Can someone explain the specifics on park passes? Are they required for anyone driving into the area, regardless of where they leave their car? So if I drive in and park at a hotel in Canmore or Banff, a pass is required? And we would need a pass for the entire stay, I suppose.
