Never skied in Canada, so looking for advice. Would like to go mid- to late-March (starting around March 19), from the NYC area. Have been looking at flying to Calgary, Vancouver, or possibly a smaller airport. Airfares actually seem more reasonable to Canada than to US ski destinations.
We will be travelling with another family and the level of skiing enthusiasm and ability varies among the family members. So looking for general advice and recommendations. In addition to amazing skiing for all levels (advanced off-piste through low intermediate), we would need to be in a place with real shopping, arts, cultural, and non-skiing outdoor attractions (snowshoeing, hiking, etc.). A real town would probably be more desirable than a manufactured ski village. Banff seems to fit the bill, but Canada's a big country and my knowledge is limited. So, recommendations and other insights on places to go, airports, hotels, etc. much appreciated!
