Zermatt - how reliable is the train to/from Geneva Airport

Hi all -

This may be a silly question but i would be grateful for any experience in terms of the reliability of the train from Zermatt to Geneva Airport.

We have an international flight out of Geneva Airport at 2:35pm and are considering getting an early train from Zermatt on the same morning.

Does anyone have any experience of the train system being closed?

Cheers

Chris

I've been to Switzerland a few times, the only time I've seen a train not exactly on time, everyone started checking their watches to see if they were working...it was pretty comical.

I've only flown in and out of Zurich, and the train goes directly into the airport terminals, so it's super easy.  Not sure how it works at Geneva. The only thing I would check is getting to the train station early morning...I would guess by taxi? Make sure you set that up ahead of time.

I once flew in to Geneva on a day when heavy snow delayed flights and even shut down the airport temporarily. But, once I was on the ground, the next train to the resort I was heading to left right on time with no problems.

The train in Geneva, like Zurich, goes right from the airport.  It's the most reliable way to get from there to Zermatt.  Swiss trains run regularly and on time almost all the time.  Enjoy the ride.

I've taken the trains in & out of Zermatt a few times.  They have ALWAYS been exactly on time.  Just make sure you're on time, the train WILL leave without you if you are not.  have a great trip.

I've never taken the train to Geneva but have to Zurich. Once time during snow storm train was very slow and very late. We missed our connection at Visp and had to wait for the next train, over an hour I think, which was then packed. In normal conditions the trains are almost always on time, but I'd watch conditions and be prepared to leave Zermatt very early if needed.

I've taken this train several times.  If a train in Switzerland is late it would make the national news and the company would offer an official apology.  Death. Taxes. Swiss trains.

Bottom line...Swiss trains are usually very reliable and on time.  But keep an eye on the weather forecasts and if it looks like major bad weather, adjust your plans accordingly.
