Does anyone in the know have recommendations for Zermatt 2017 good dates? (I.e. to skip school holidays).
We were thinking early March for the snow.
Thanks for any tips!
Early March is a good time. The Stockhorn area should be fully open by then. This is the home of some of the more interesting off piste stuff. AVI gear required and guide recommended.
Make absolutely sure you have appropriate insurance cover if you intend to go off piste.
Not a resort that is much impacted by school hols as it is one of the most expensive around and attracts an older wealthier crowd.
If you are intending to take taxis between the hotel and the lifts this next bit does not apply. If you are intending to use the buses then look very carefully at the location of any accommodation you are considering in relation to the nearest bus stop. Get Mr Google on the job and work it out in meters. Walking 1/2 a mile in ski boots at the end of the day is not fun.
If you intend to eat out a lot especially on the mountain the choice is excellent and the food not likely to disappoint. However you will need a bag of gold to pay. In some places a big bag.
If it is warm and sunny consider downloading at the end of the day. I have memories of poling through slush.
Take care not to get caught on the Cervinia side. The taxi fare back will be eye watering. N.B. usually cheaper to get a room and stay overnight in Cervinia.
