Hello friendly boot fitters,
I recently bought a pair of Salomon X3-Lab Soft boots on extreme closeout from a local shop and thought I would give them a try. One size too big, but I was looking for a warm, comfortable boot with reasonable performance -- something I could stand in all day, but still skis well. However, I can't figure out how to mount the shin plates, and can't find any instructions online or photos of one properly installed. I have to say that the plates seem very small, making precise installation seemingly important. Unlike other boots I've had, these Salomon's do not have the mounting hole location marked.
My questions are:
1) How/where do I install them?
2) Are the Nordica plates better? I have several and the Salomon plates seem like they would need to be installed quite precisely.
Also, what are your thoughts on Booster straps for these boots. I mounted a set to try for weekend, but they seem to change the flex patter of the boot quite a bit. I'm generally a huge fan of Boosters, but will have to try and see on these. Salomon makes a big deal about the design of their power strap, but I don't know if that is marketing or if there is some reality in there too. The boot does seem to put a lot of stress on the strap.
Thank you for your help!
