There are only two immutable rules:
1) you must be present to vote. No absentee ballots, no proxies.
2) The 3 year rule: We cannot repeat the current or prior year's resort.
[edit - there was some confusion on whether the rule was 2 or 3.].
Advance discussion has sometimes been frowned upon, but I think we need to change that. I've been to too many votes where everybody is struggling to come up with ideas on the spot. Start thinking, and talking, about where you would like to go., Think about being Gathermeister -- wouldn't it be cool to show off your favorite mountain to your friends?
The vote will be held Saturday evening in combination with a party at the condo I'm renting. I havent' nailed down the exact time yet. It will be "pot luck", but if you can't work out the logistics to bring something and have to arrive empty handed, come anyway. I'll prime the pump with a few pizzas and some beer and wine. Spread the address privately -- PLEASE DO NOT POST THE ADDRESS ON THE INTERNET. It is near the Snowmass base, which has good bus service and free garage parking after 5 pm.
Anyone can make a nomination for the 2017 Gathering location. You don't even have to be there -- I will present any credible nominations sent to me. What makes a strong nomination? A good mountain. A person identified to be the Gathermeister. The general time frame (not exact dates, but early, peak season, or late season, and any busy periods that will be avoided.)
There will be involvement by AT LEAST Epicski and Pugski members in the next Gathering. I would expect it to be like this one, with formal business centralized and discussion spread across forums and their members. Phil Pugliese expressed a vision for Gatherings which I agree with..and he said it so well that I am just going to quote him:
"Two years ago there were two "Gatherings", one in Utah and one in Tahoe/Mammoth. IMHO, there was a division,
some went to one, some went to another, few went to both. I really think there should be ONE major national
event (but still mini/local GTG's). The event needs to be promoted on all the sites but with Epic still being
bigger we can expect a bigger outreach, with many members crossing over between the two sites, I think we
need to be of like mind and have a unified vision"
