Interesting position diesel has gotten himself into,

Possible troll he is on many other forums here just chatting and not making any sense.

I have a FlyLow Quantum Pro jacket and Magnum pants that cost me about $500 together.  Been very happy with them so far.

For midlayers, I have a TNF thermoball ($100), an Arcteryx cerium LT ($170) and a Patagonia retro X vest ($100).  All bought on sale at the end of the season.

For baselayers, I moved from Patagonia to Helly Hansen.  I like HH better and can be found for cheaper.  Amazon is a great source.

I know, but it is just the "elitist vibe" that gets to me with some things.. I understand people take their hobbies very seriously, but at the end of the day it is just a recreational hobby. Just can't stand snobs, thats all.

I'll just try to ignore them next time.

You should ask your gear questions on TGR.  They are much more understanding and helpful.  I'm sure you would fit right in.
