Good places ro stay for solo skier

I might do a powder chase in february, which could lead to flying across the atlantic from Norway. I've lived in the Billings area and Fernie, and have skied Bridger/Big sky and around BC. Never got around to skiing northern Montana though, and would like to check it out if I get the chance.
Where would be the best place for a solo traveler or two guys to stay that wouldn't be too expensive?

If there's a bit of nightlife around, even better!

Whitefish, MT. Informative site by Epicski member SibHusky: http://www.wmr-guide.com/ See tips section for lodging info. Sounds like you would enjoy staying in town and doing short commute to mountain for skiing.

There's a hostel downtown, and Hibernation House on the hill.

Here's what I wrote in another thread:

Now that I see you don't need a major air hub and there's no price issue on air, it certainly makes a lot of sense to use that to go where others don't because of the air issue. Lift tickets here are relatively cheap compared to other "destination resorts". There is on mountain lodging, including a hostel-level place called Hibernation House that has packages** including lift tickets.
Then, downtown, there is the Whitefish Hostel, walk to the Snow Bus (free).

Benefits of being downtown are more restaurants and shops. Downside is worrying about bus schedules.

**Current Hibernation House promo (they change)
