Has anyone who loved the old RTM tried the 2016?

The old "camberless" RTM 81 tended to be either loved or hated. I know that many people who weren't thrilled about the old design of the series have sung the praises of the new RTM 84. I have found very little discussion of the new RTM 81 in general (other than a few commercial reviews), and nothing by anyone who already loved the old model.

Just curious ....

I sell Volkl skis and have been a mild fan of the earlier RTM skis, especially the RTM84, this past Australian season I skied on most of the newer RTM skis, mainly the RTM 86 and 84, I feel the newer models are quite a step up on the earlier models, they really did need the camber under foot if you want a decent level of performance, the wider track binding, the addition of the UVO, all help to make the 84 and 86 a great ski, the narrower models are sure to be better with the addition of the camber back under the foot.

The replacement of the Titanium with steel in the RTM84 doesn't seem to make any difference, as the UVO keeps them quite smooth at speed.

I had a couple of RTM84 owners test out the new RTM86 and thought it required more work to get the best out of them, I love the new RTM86 myself, but I would suggest you demo a set first before buying.

In Australia we got the skis within days of them being made at the factory, as they were late in production, and then air frighted in, word had it that many of them needed to be retuned before use, and those that did this certainly liked the skis much more the skis afterwards, I doubt this will be a problem for the skis arriving in the shops now, as production wouldn't be as rushed.

I got to try the 2016 RTM 81 on Sunday, but that was the first day out this season due to the unseasonably-warm weather this year. I loved it, but I was still dusting off the cobwebs. I never got to try the 2015 RTM 81.
