Stockli AX in 167? Too long?

Hi, I'm intermediate or more, 5'6, 165 lbs. I ski on 2015 Kendo 163 in Tahoe, and after 22 days this season I'm ready to try something tighter. I really like the look/reviews/profile of the Stockli AX. They also have them in my local shop at 167cm.

Too long? The next size down is 159 and I can't find them anywhere.

Thanks!

Not too long.

Thanks. Will the 159 be too short?

yes

The 159 cm AX has a radius 12.9 m.  For a ski of that radius, it is just a tiny bit too short for 165 lbs, unless you are mostly skiing small hills that are covered in ice.  167 cm  (at a radius of 14.4 m) is the right size, unless you ski faster than 90% of the other skiers on the hill. In that case you would want the 175 cm , but you would also probably want the SX instead.

Thank-you. I'm getting the 167. I ski faster than 90% of people on the Heavenly greens - does that count?

Crap I forgot to ask. Is a Griffon enough or do I need something special?

Use almost anything except Marker Royal Family.  If you have a smallish foot or have the ski come off in soft snow, you will curse the Marker heel.  I used to have Schizo Griffons and was really glad when I got rid of the skis because I hated the bindings.  Atomic/Salomon, Head/Tyrolia and Look/Rossi all have better bindings.

What?  Don't they come with  the M AM12 binding?

I suspect that is a joke, but no. I got some Knee's in the end from what they had available to bind TODAY.

Man, impulse buying rocks.

Knee isn't one of the "better than Marker" options.

I would think the 167 is a good length for you.  It skis a touch short with the early rise.
