Skiers trapped near Detroit!!

Thread Starter

We live near Detroit, MI. Have driven to Quebec and Vermont. Was wondering if anyone has flown out of

Detroit to perhaps the Rockies-without having to take out a sizeable loan for the ski trip?!

Ann Arbor native here.

Just my opinion of course, but I've repeated scores of times (when asked if I still ski in MI) that Mt. Bohemia is a gem but the drive to Vermont isn't much longer and the drive to Winter Park or Copper Mountain, CO isn't much longer than that.

Perhaps an appropriate parallel is, OMG, how much is it to fly from Santa Fe to DTW?  I could drive for a lot less than that!

Have you considered taking Amtrak to Winter Park?

Airfare on DTW-DEN can regularly be found for $200-300 r/t these days.

No, no one from Detroit has ever taken a trip to the Rockies ;)

Might want to ask more specific questions if you want some practicable information.

I'm pretty sure I watched a movie where two guys from Detroit drove to Aspen and slept in their van. Airfare to Colorado is fairly cheap but driving is cheaper.

Southwest Airlines has a big hub in Denver.  You can usually get cheap flights with them and your skis fly free which saves a lot of money.

 I think it's $228 roundtrip right now.

Some of us have managed to escape Detroit. It's not easy but I would do it soon before the western states stop accepting asylum seekers.
