RH and I are headed north this week, planning to ski Whitefish, Fernie, Whitewater, Red, and Schweitzer. obviously we hope conditions will be good. Would love to hear from locals as to what we should expect so we can pack accordingly.

Not much snow in the forecast. Off piste has been hit pretty hard, as most of the snow arrived before or during Christmas week. Snow quality is excellent. Coverage varies.

If there's no snowfall at Whitefish maybe that means no fog. Thanks for the report, much appreciated!

Snow forecast later in the week (after Tuesday) for most these areas.

You wish... ;-)

Actually I haven't had any days that bad so far. But, could happen, as the lake isn't frozen yet.

I plan on heading south next week and might ski WH20 and Red Jan.19 or 20.

Current forecast for the above is at or near freezing Wed.-Thurs with not much new snow.

Sib,

In general how does the weather pattern go at Whitefish?  Is it foggier early season?   More bluebird late season?  I think I've heard once the lake freezes over it clears up more, correct?

I'm 60 days out...  Pretty pumped..

Colder equals less fog. Fog could last all season if ites too warm for the lakes to freeze.

Some years the lake doesn't even freeze?

It never froze completely last year. It is barely started at present. Flathead, of course, never completely freezes as it's too big.

Apparently, the mere mention of Nolo coming has turned around the forecast. Suddenly snow is on its way.

Between the fog and the rime on our goggles, seeing where we were going was a challenge today at Whitefish, but the snow quality was pretty good on the frontside and east runs. Elephant graveyard was surprisingly good as well, but it's a long traverse back to base. Now we're at Fernie. Looks like a great mountain.

Looks like Southern BC should do well the next 7 days! Excited to be on my way to Whistler and the interior for a few days!

Didn't know you were here today. Bagged it as I woke up with a migraine.

Did you get to Flower Point?

I just got a Snow Alert from Red: 20cm (8") overnight, (Tuesday night).

I will be there, or WH20 in a week's time.;)

I don't know about Flower Point. Where is it?

Fernie rocked today. Whitewater should be good tomorrow, judging from the (white knuckles) drive over the pass.

It's the new terrain they opened last year. Lots of trees on the north side. Chair 11 also gives easy access to Canyon Creek backcountry.

I just talked to a co worker who just go back from 3 days at WH20 and he said it was off the charts. They called it 45cm, but he said it was more than that and mostly waist deep...on a snowboard.

Did you come over to Schweitzer? I would have loved to ski with you for at least a few runs. Hope you had a great trip!

Did you get to Whitewater? I found it quite pleasant on Wednesday Jan 20. They were only claiming 17 cents or something like that, but I found over a foot in many places, and much if it only had one or two tracks. A few places had none, even at noon.

The snow was, um, adequate.

I would have loved to show you around WH2O, too. Sounds like you enjoyed it!

I got to WH20 on Tue morning expecting to get a complimentary ski ticket with my Sun Peaks Employee Pass but that deal is no more and I was required to pay half price. Since there was only a coupe cm overnight and I really only planned on doing a few runs (unles s there was deep pow) and then head off on a 6 week 12 resort trip with all skiing already paid for (except MCP extra half price days), I had breakfast in the lodge and then headed to Sun Valley.
