The past 2 years there have been rumors of Vail possibly buying 2 small areas that serve Milwaukee/Chicago skiers: Wilmot Mountain and Alpine Valley. Has anyone heard anything recently about their interest? It was rumored that their first pass was for very little money. Both, Wilmot more so, need investment and improvement. Wilmot is like entering a time machine and skiing as it was 40-50 years ago. Alpine has made some investments and has a resort, golf course and concert area. So many of the small local hills in the Midwest have closed since the 70s and there are fewer places to learn or practice. I am sure that Vail and the other big ski corps realize that the small areas have traditionally been the learning/feeder areas those in the west and don't want all of them to go out of business.
