Presenting the Slalom House in Kazakhstan

"An apartment building with a 1,000-foot ski slope could be coming to Astana, Kazakhstan. A design for the building from Shokhan Mataibekov Architects was named a finalist at the World Architecture Festival.

This video shows what the outside-the-box building would look like if it ever became reality."

At 21 stories, it would have about 200 vertical feet.

The elevator lift line would suck something serious though.....

This has been sitting in the Meadowlands complex in East Rutherford NJ since 2008.  The whole project has been in limbo since then, after being 80% completed, when the bank holding the financing defaulted.

One thing that's interesting, or maybe a bit disingenuous depending on how you think about it - they refer to a "1,000 foot slope". But that's the linear length of the slope, not the vertical, as the building is only 21 stories. That gives a little bit of a skewed impression of how high and long the slope really is.

If we assume that each story is 12 feet of building height, then the top is at 252 feet above the street. And with a length of 1000 feet, that makes the average pitch of almost 15 degrees. Not too bad - it would be solid green run around here, but with changes in pitch and turns, probably a blue.

Think they'll let it bump up? :D
