Boot fitting - move up in last width, or punch / grind ???

Thread Starter

Looking for new boots after 15+ years.

Trying to decide between Rossignol Allspeed Elite (98 mm last) or Pro (100 mm last) - preferably in 110 flex - size 26.5.

Went to a good boot fitter (listed on http://www.bootfitters.com/) who recommended these two boots based on foot shape, etc. The Pro (100 mm last) felt good overall, but roomy enough that the 98 mm felt like a possibility. The only issue with the 98 mm was that the forefoot felt a bit snug after 20-30 minutes in the boot.

If I draw a 98 mm box on a piece of paper, my foot just fits within the box, even when weighted. So as best as I can measure, my foot width seems to be 98 mm (maybe 99 mm) for both feet. On a Brannock Device my foot width seems to be right between a B and C.

My question:

If the Elite (98 mm) is slightly snug in the forefoot, but fits comfortably otherwise, would you lean toward moving up to the 100, or just punch / grind some space out on the 98?

Additional info:

Current boots are Technica TNS Fibertech (~1997), 304 mm boot sole, EU size 41, no markings for mondo size

Advanced skier comfortable with most of the mountain (groomers, crud, powder, bowls).

Looking for a performance fit (not a race fit).

Leaning toward 110 flex.

Higher arch and instep - but (as far as I know) not so large as to necessitate moving up a boot size.

Based on several different fittings I am very confident 26.5 is my correct mondo size.

get the smaller one, and stretch later, IF NEEDED

easy to make a small boot bigger, hard to make a big boot smaller
