Skate Groomed XC Within Reach of DIA

Let's say, hypothetically, that I was tired of waiting for winter here in New England. Let's say I could get to Denver and had a three day weekend. I want to do some skate skiing in a pretty venue with plenty of mileage. Not Spartan, but not one-percenter. Experienced skier. Where would I go?

Aspen's "fifth mountain" is the largest free system in the country.

Winter park/Granby is closer to DEN and has a couple of systems, but most of them have trail fees.

Thanks. Aspen is probably too far and too pricey. Plus I'm going there for the Gathering.

WP area sounds promising. Trail fees probably not a show stopper considering all the other expenses. Specific recommendations for trail networks and/or lodging?

Devils Thumb Ranch is nice.

It's been a while, I always stayed in Winter Park because I primarily alpine.

Beavers Village or the Signature, just because I knew the managers.
