Japan Weather Patterns In January

Thread Starter

Can anyone offer insight into Japan (famed Hokkaido region) weather patterns? Is booking in January guaranteed powder as I have been reading it snows pretty much non stop from December to January? Do they ever have blocking type high pressure like the West may have on and off that could create dry spells?

I try to book my ski trips last minute to make sure I get powder. I want to ski some of the famed Japan powder but a trip like that would have to be booked in advance for me and I have strong anxiety about the thought of not getting fresh powder. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

It normally snows a lot in January for sure, this is my 8th season and it's hard to remember a week without at least some snow in Jan. That said, this season is a bit funny, latest start I've seen. That said, it's puking now, so you'd probably be fine.
