2015/16 Jackson Hole Ski Conditions and General Good Times

Sorry it's taken so long to get this started.  My lame excuse is that I've been a little busy.

Anyway...

6 more inches of snow last night at JH Mountain Resort and 9" at Grand Targhee.  That puts both resorts over 100" of total snowfall for the season!

The reports I'm getting from Targhee are excellent.  A little or a lot of new snow nearly every day for over a week and great coverage from top to bottom.

Over here at Jackson Hole, we're rapidly approaching having all lifts running.  This is a random photo from the top of the gondola three days ago:

Yesterday they opened Sublette quad chair, tomorrow is the aerial tram, and Saturday is the grand opening of the brand new Teton high speed chair up into the crags!

We still don't have quite enough snow to open the Lower Faces, but things are improving quickly and there's more snow in the forecast.

And speaking of opening the tram tomorrow, here's a VERY cool video about the aerial tram at Jackson Hole:

More to come...

That's what I've been hearing from everyone who's been over there.  We've really reached the "great skiing" point on the scale for everything other than the Lower Faces.  A couple more storms should solve that and those storms are definitely in the forecast.

The tram opened this morning and the brand-new Teton chair opens tomorrow.  Everyone is walking around with smiles on their faces as the skiing is great and the holiday crush is still about 48 hours from arrival so the lifelines are still non-existent.

The ski area's 50th anniversary is in full swing now.  If I think about it too much, it really makes me feel V-E-R-Y O-L-D as the first time I skied here was almost exactly 46 years ago.

My, how time flies when you're having fun!

Best of all - we're REALLY glad to hear that most of the West is having a legendary snow year.  Not to be xenophobic or anything, but we wouldn't mind spreading around some of the crowds that have been here the last few years.

Y'all have some killer powder days, y'hear?

Totally jealous!

For those who missed the JH 50th Anniversary videos, some of the parts are linked in this thread:

I've been too busy skiing to post reports.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort got another ten inches in the last 24 hours.  We've had measurable snow every day for the last fifteen days.  Avalanche dangers are high all around the area.  Skiing is ridiculously good.  JHMR opened the Lower Faces yesterday (it was outstanding).  They did not open the Hobacks as of when I left around 1:45pm, but I think that's just for lack of manpower.  Pretty sure the whole mountain with possible exception of Corbet's will open today.  They had not opened the Headwall yet, but I think that's probably also just due to workload.

The new Teton chairlift is magnificent.

GRAND TARGHEE GOT 22 INCHES IN THE LAST 24 HOURS!!!!  According to the avalanche report, there is one inch of water in those 22 inches.  That's something like less than 5% moisture content, which should mean face shots and over-the-head at Targhee today.

We're really glad that so many other resorts in the West are getting snow too.  It's not very crowded here.

Everybody have fun out there and Merry Christmas.

Couldn't agree more about the new Teton chairlift!  The Hobacks wasn't open on 12/24 noon-ish although spotted many poachers.

Was really excited to read about the new Casper demo center on the trail map (..."10 international brands"..."unlimited demo at $5/hr"); however, we missed its opening by a day or two.  Will just have to plan another trip back!

That's a great deal! I have an epic pass but my timing is off, I'll be at JH 1/7-1/12 (first time!). Any other suggestions on discount lift tickets aside from this promo? My searches are turning up pretty dry for both JH and big sky where I'll be right before.

I believe it's time to make the journey north.  The Hobacks are calling...

Legendary snowfall this season?  Hope it doesn't snow too much!
