Less than 2 weeks till Xmas. Where to go? - Page 2

One of the big draws for me hitting Sun Valley for Xmas week was #1 the coverage is reported to be decent at this early part of the season, and # 2 it doesn't seem to get the crowds. Also, # 3, the forecast looked promising last week when I booked. Oh, and while we are counting, # 4 reason, I was able to get reasonably priced airfare from Seattle to Boise on the outbound, and even cheaper airfare back direct from Sun Valley to Seattle! So bonus, no car rental. Take the bus from BOI, and fingers crossed that the storms grace Mt Baldy with some snow!

I skied big white today. it's been dry no recent snow, only 8in in the past week a base of 67in.

Arriving an hour after the lift starts spinning, means I had to search for parking.

It's actually is always foggy at the top. With the leak Canadian dollar, tourists are flocking in. After lunch the chairlift reached maximum capacity.

Bumped out and not a fresh turn in sight.

It's been pretty good so far this season up here. 100% open and the forecast looks promising.  Snowing right now down to the lake.

Air fare is fine. But lodging looks like it will cost an arm and a leg!

It has been snowing since we arrived on Friday evening. It might stop for a bit but on Saturday Dec. 19th it has basically been snowing lightly all day and now into the evening it has picked up a bit. It's not dumping but just a light snow. Looking forward to another day at SV with low crowds, and hoping that the viz is better, cause I'd really like to be able to see what I'm shredding before it shreds my legs! No lift lines to speak of.

Can't complain for my first day ever at SV. I rode the lift with a 40 year local who said that it was one of the better early seasons in about 15 years.

Just about 5"-6" with about 10"-12" of windblown in places. SV still needs another 12"-18" to cover up some of the shrub and give a bit more coverage down lower. But no complaints, the snow is soft and fun.

@Toadman, great report!  I will be there in 3 weeks for my first visit.  Hopefully, it will have that 18" by then.  Love the pictures!

Resort reporting 5" past 24 hrs. Today was bluebird day. Longest lift line was at 9Am. But still only about 5 minutes or so. Hit some wind buff softness and pockets of powder in the morning. Fingers crossed for that storm to hit early in the week.
