driving Kicking Horse to Revelstoke in Feb?

Thread Starter
We're heading to Kicking Horse in Feb16. Thinking about a day trip to Revelstoke.

Anyone done this? Is it worth 2hrs each way? Its been 10+ yrs since I've been in the area (went to Panorama then). I recall the hiway was decent, but my route was limited to Calgary-Panorama only.

Or should I stick to KHMR, first time visiting...hopefully its as much fun as I'm anticipating...

Thanks
Ted

do it a lot - I prefer Kicking Horse but both are good hills

I certainly advise doing both when in area (and Louise if your passing that way )

Remember the  time zone change in Rodgers Pass is between, so if your going west to east in the am it means getting up earlier.

2hr is not a long drive but I find best odds of avoiding possible avy closures in Rodgers Pass is to do the drive right after skiing as overnight/am closures are the most frequent.

Then stay in the town closest to where you plan to ski and repeat going the other way.

Room costs are pretty much a wash in Golden or Revelstoke maybe slightly less  in Golden so overnighting in Revelstoke should not cost you much more.

Neither town is stunning but both have enough food choices and a few places to go to in evening

I think you have this backwards.  When it's 7am in KH, it's 6am in Revi.  (hate to correct a local and apologies if i'm wrong)

I would put down a trip to Revi from KH as a must do!  The spectacular scenery makes the drive painless, unless of course you have avi road problems at Rogers Pass.

I also preferred KH to Revi, but you can't go wrong with a day there.

When I did my trip I hit LL on the way back to airport.

Revy is west of KH.

Also look at Sunshine and Panorama along with Louise if your in and out from Calgary.

The  5 are relatively close together, all good hills but often conditions will vary a lot between them.

Flexibilty is good if you have it and the time.
