2016 New England Gathering -- March 25th to the 28th - Page 4

It was a pleasure meeting everyone and skiing with you all this weekend. A great group of people and all good skiers! Thanks to MDF for stepping up to fill Kevin's shoes as our group leader.

Great to see @mdf again, and to meet @SCRUFFY, @hobbes429, and Mrs. Hobbes.  Even though I had to split early, we covered a fair amount of what was open.  Glad you could see past the lack of snow to get a sense of the potential that Smuggs has when there is enough of the white stuff.  Hope to ski with all y'all again soon!

Hey @KevinF, there was some idle talk on the chairlift of a future Eastern Gathering at Sugarloaf in ithe future.  While it would certainly be a schlepp for just about everybody to get there, late-season conditions are usually a little more consistent, and the place is big enough that we wouldn't have to think about bouncing between different ski areas (like we'd have much of a selection).  Thoughs?

The Gathering went to Saddleback and Sugarloaf a few years back...  We had pretty low attendance that year (probably due to the schlep to get there).  I didn't consider the Maine option this year because of the difficulties that Saddleback has had this year.  I'd be up for doing it again, maybe as an April time-frame trip.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold the phone. Any Sugarloaf gathering will skip a Saddleback day over my dead body, if the mountain opens. smile.gif We actually did that two years ago. It was fun. [Edit: I see Kevin got there already.]

Great day yesterday at Stowe with mdf, scruffy, and lakespapa. I don't have any people pics but mdf does. I expect he'll post eventually.

I'm just about to see if any of them have people in frame. The hazards of shooting blind (bright sun and LCD screens).

qcanoe. You were barely in the picture, so it is severely cropped and contrast reduced -- that's why it is so grainy. You are looking good, though.

Nice pictures!  Looks like you guys had some good slushy bumps going?

I'm still wondering about that missed photo op of me sliding upside down and backwards down Lifeline, moving at a smooth clip, wondering when I was going to stop. :rolleyes

Great trip, great mountain, really great company (when I could keep up!).  It's good to meet in person those you know only online, a face, voice, and presence to go with the words. It's interesting how close the actual person is to the written person most of the time.

Thanks @KevinF for organizing, and thanks @mdf for carrying out the plan! Thanks to mdf, @SCRUFFY, and @qcanoe for beating this intermediate up and down the mountain, and being nice about it. It was a pleasure to meet Mrs. mdf and Ms. qcanoe-SO and drinking a little too much, very excellent IPA.

Let's do it again next year!

Here's the last pitch of my last run.

@lakespapa, glad you were able to make it out!  Meeting people from the forums is the whole idea of the gathering.  There will be a gathering next year and I hope you can make that one as well!

@mdf, what is that, Gulch to end the day?  Looks pretty tasty!

It was Gulch. Actually, they were my least favorite bumps. By then, the surface was sticky yet the structure was still rock hard. (Much better bumps higher on the mountain, on Liftline, National, Centerline, Hayride.) But it was Gulch or an exetended runout, so I chose Gulch. Bad bumps are better than no bumps.
