People with unused passes for Stowe can they be sold, transferred or no?

Not the MCP passes... driver's license required.

Hopefully the rest of you still attend and we still have a Gathering!  I will be there in spirit.

Saw that over there — super sucky.  Heal up, Kevin!

Trying to decide what to do.  The original plan was for showing up for the day on Saturday. Now it appears that (since I work for the pope) I'm off Friday through Monday. Surprise. So I guess I'd come up Sunday and stay through Monday. Who'd a thought?

So if the snow is worth the drive, I'll be looking to stay somewhere Sunday night.  Any local recommendations?

Local accommodations...  it depends on your budget.  I don't think there are any "bad" places in town. I've been somewhat partial to the Commodores Inn , but the full list is here:  http://www.gostowe.com/

Sorry that I'll miss you.  Next year!

I PM'd some of you. I'll be in the general vicinity but have several irons in the fire and will not be as flexible as might be hoped.

I've stayed in the Stowehof, Hob Nob, and the Commodores. All were fine. I will be at the Stowehof this time. The lodging search sites (booking.com, hotels.com, kyak.com etc) often have better rates than the inns' own websites.

As I said over on Pugski, it's looking like a very small event, but it is still happening. I'm planning to be there 4 days (very small chance work might take Friday away), and qcanoe and lakespapa have noted above that they are going to be there at least some of the days. There are a few others who have neither canceled nor reconfirmed that they are still coming.

Who else is still in?

I'm glad to see that despite the weather and the injuries and myriad other reasons that the New England Gathering will survive for another year.

Thumbs Up

I am in SLC right now, but will be home in time to ski at Smuggs on Saturday and Sunday.  I have some free tickets to burn, so I'll be there both days vs spending one at Stowe.  I moved my vacation days from the Gathering weekend so I could take this trip, and was rewarded with no new snow since I've arrived and a whopper of a head/chest cold.  Hopefully it will clear out by next weekend.

So, since this question has come up, what should the schedule be? (SE, there's been discussion about adjusting the schedule.)

I haven't been keeping tabs on Stowe/Smuggs conditions too closely since I've been out here.  I heard some rumblings about some cold front/nor'easter thing that is supposed to come through northern NE early in the week, but I think it's tracking more offshore now.

Looking at the websites, it looks like Stowe opened the chairs on Spruce today, which is bodes well for next weekend.  Sounds like Smuggs took advantage of the recent cold weather and actually made snow.  It looks like it isn't going to get ridiculously warm or wet during the week, so I would be cautiously optimistic that there will be top-to-bottom skiing at both resorts for all of the days of the Gathering.

I think the Stowe/Smuggs/Stowe/Smuggs schedule for Fr/Sa/Su/Mo still makes sense.  Stowe on Friday will give you a change to experience the mountain with relatively little traffic.  Smuggs  on Saturday will be quieter than Stowe, plus if your legs are dead from lapping high-speed chairs, the fixed-grip doubles will give you some enforced recovery time.  On Sunday back at Stowe, if you're an early riser the Forerunner quad starts loading at 7:30 AM.  Since it's Easter Sunday, you will have the unique opportunity to ride the Gondola up (as early as 5am) for a non-denominational sunrise service at the top of Mt. Mansfield, and then ski down if you're edges are feeling up to the challenge.  Grab a bite to eat while you wait for the Forerunner to open, and you will get more turns in by 10AM than most folks will get all day.  Then back to Smuggs for Monday and truly have the place to yourselves, or, honestly, folks can just follow their bliss and call an audible on Sunday as to where to meet on Monday.

Smuggs does an Easter sunrise service too, BTW, but you have to wait longer for the rest of the mountain to open up.

The Nor'easter is tracking along the coast.  For a few days, it looked like 8-12 here in SW New Hampshire — now they're saying 1-2", which is typical for this season.

Smugg's isn't a for sure at the moment.

What's the current thinking, @mdf, etc.?  I'm up for trying Smugg's, but it isn't a deal breaker, one way or the other.

I like Smuggs, so I think including it for added variety is a good idea.

Here's my suggestion...

Let's keep Fri=Stowe, Sat=Smuggs, Sun=Stowe.

And see how well each skis before we decide what to do on Monday.

On another front, we have a reservation at Idletyme for 7:30 on Sunday.  I'm sure we could revise it to include more people;  is anybody interested?  I want to have a reservation because I am not a big fan of standing in the entranceway of restaurants for long periods of time.

Good idea, re: Smuggs.

Did you make Saturday night dinner reservations as well?  I'm a fan of Gracie's for what that's worth

Not yet. Thanks for the reccommendation.

Just a FYI post. It's been a few years since I attended the Sunrise service at Stowe but last time I was there they kept the gondola running after the service was over & you could load & continue to ski the gondola side until Forerunner opened.

I'm making progress on rearranging my work schedule to make this trip happen. As of now, count me in.

Where will you all be skiing on Saturday?  Still Smugglers?  There's a chance I could make it.

Yes, still Smuggs.

Why are y'all going to Smuggs? There's no woods skiing.

Any idea what their PSIA lift ticket rate is?

Stowe has a deal for people who hold season passes from other resorts: $79 / day (doesn't include the $5 RFID card) when you present your pass and another proof of ID.

I doubt you're going to find any woods skiing at Stowe this weekend either...

Wrapping things up at work is taking a little longer than I had hoped.

So I will drive up in the morning instead of tonight.  Plan to ski a few hours at Stowe tomorrow.

Then Sat at Smuggs, Sun at Stowe, and Monday TBD, as previously outlined.

Been at Smuggs this week.  Went from hardpack with icy patches Monday and Tuesday, to 4-6 inches of heavier/wetter snow greeting us Wednesday morning, to an additional 1-3 inches of dryer, colder snow today.  They opened Lower Doc Dempsey's today which was a treat, as well as parts of Upper Exhibition on Sterling and a few others.  Really was a terrific day today.  Yesterday was quite nice as well.

Big winds this afternoon seemed to blow all the new snow off the exposed trails late afternoon.  Looks like rain overnight tonight and tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see what Saturday has to offer.  Took a "group" lesson today with a Level 8-9 instructor and 1 other skier ... instructor guided us to a bunch of "off the map" tree skiing.  Amazing how much snow some of these tree areas still held!

@hobbes429 are you going to be around this weekend?

Up here with my wife and daughter for the week.  Saturday would be our last day, leaving very early Sunday morning.  Going to see what impact the rain has on conditions tomorrow to see if Saturday will be a skiing day or not.  Hoping for the best!
