Stowe, many years ago There was a power outage in the valley and they were running the quad off of a generator, ½ speed, 2 to a chair. Coming over the ridge was unbelievable. Air temperatures in the negative numbers, wind and stopping way up in the air.
Got to the lodge at the top, no power, no running water, warm sodas. Took off my boots and then couldn't get them back on again as my feet swelled up. It took a long time.
Then, ski related, drove back to Massachusetts in my friends Volvo with no heat. Never realized just how important a heater is. Even with ski clothes, two pairs of socks and boots on we had to stop every hour at a rest area to warm up, it was brutal.
