Keystone Question on Outback and North Mtn Condition

Thread Starter

Been on Keystone this year, but only Dercum was open.  Know that pretty much all of both back peaks are open, but most is not groomed, by their grooming map on 5 DEC.

How is the base on the ungroomed runs and general condition?  Don't want to hazard some new skis, but also want to figure out what skis to take back there!  Have some new Nordica Vagabonds I am thinking of, but obviously if it is pretty tracked out/sort of groomed, wrong ski.

Thanks.

I skied Keystone the past Friday 12/4. No new snow for 4 days. I skied the Bighorn, Porcupine and Wolverine in the Outback and Cat Dancer, Geronimo and Powder Cap on North Peak. Coverage was really good for early season. The snow was nice and very edgeable packed powder and not icy. There were some small exposed rocks and tree stumps mostly at the top 5-10% of the runs, more on the North Peak than Outback. If you go very slow and are careful at the top you can avoid the rocks. After getting well established in the runs everything was well covered on those runs. I skied on my new skis and ended up with a few really minor scratches that will not affect performance. It's supposed to snow Thur through Sat. Have fun.
