So it appears I'm going to be skiing Mammoth (after the drive up from LA) on March 18th and 19th, using my two days on my Mountain Collective pass. On the way back home (from Los Angeles unless I go to Squaw), I'd like to stop at one of the other Mountain Collective resorts and use my days there too, on Monday and Tuesday the 21st and 22nd. So I'm looking for suggestions about which would be best.
I'm an intermediate, and while I'm hoping to get better this year, I'm not looking for bumps, steeps, or trees, and I've only been out west once before. I'll be by myself - but of course would love to meet up with some Epic folks if possible. Some other thoughts :
-- Aspen is out as I will have already used my days at the Gathering.
-- Jackson Hole and WB are out because of flight costs
-- It's a Monday and Tuesday, but it's the week before Easter, so I'm wondering about crowds too
Based on airfare costs/flight availability I've been looking at, I think here are my best options :
-- Sun Valley - won't need a rental car, still groomer heaven in late March?
-- Alta/Snowbird - won't need a rental car, should be good at that time - is Alta over my head?
-- Squaw/Alpine - would rent a car at Mammoth and drive up and leave via Reno to go home - might be nice to have a day each at two different places? Or is that too ambitious?
These would be do-able, but the extra drive seems to make them less likely, unless someone has a good reason to pick them.
-- Lake Louise - long drive from Calgary - good time of year?
-- Taos - long drive from Albuquerque - over my head?
Any thoughts? Anything else I should be considering?
