Kinda weird question - regarding 2012 Lange RX130 - and fitting question for my boot

My brother has a '12 or '13 Lange RX 130.

He and I have about the same size foot.  He's a 9.5/10 US and I'm a good 10.5.  I wear a Salomon XMax130 in a 27, and wondering now if I'm in too big a boot even though I had a boot fitter fit me.  My brother thought I'd be a 26 and he thought his boot was a 26 in the Lange.

I know boot brands size differently, but when looking at his boot, I read the sole at 295mm, which to me would be a 25/25.5 rather than the 26.  He said that this particular Lange shell was shorter than normal...and that's my question, do any of you boot guys know if this boot did infact have a shorter shell than usual, or is he in a 26 @ 295mm?

I'm asking because I just spent a bunch of coin on my new Salomon's and before I ski them, I want to be sure.

I used to ski a Salomon Falcon 10 in the 27/27.5 as well, but just wondering if I try to go smaller.   When I tried the 26.5 in the Xmax, the tops of my toes (knuckles) hit, but now I'm just wondering if I should take a closer look at it and then have them grind that part of the boot out.

The bootfitter thought I may have enough room in the 26 when he measured me w/o the liner (shell only), but said it was close...and just said the 27 was probably better.

Again, a bunch of info here, but I just want to be sure.  My brother being one size down in the Lange didn't concern me, but when I read his boot was a 295mm, I started thinking, "Wow, he may be two sizes down from my Salomon which is 27.5 and 315mm in length.

Hope that made some sense.

Thank you!

295mm is a 25.5 in the RX always has been always will be

just because someone buys the same size shoes doesn't automatically make them the same size ski boot (people often buys shoes which are too small or too big)

take a read of this article http://www.epicski.com/a/boot-fitting-which-boot-will-work-for-me form the top of the forum and do a shell check, then you have the information you need to know if your boot is the correct size, or at least a starting point to work form

Salomon has taken to "gaming" the boot market by taking their lasts to the extreme large side of the scale for the mondopoint that they are building. Most of their current models run large in both width and volume from the printed size. easier to make them leave the store that way as well as much easier to sell in the average ski retailer that has some greenhorn snot nose kid that cannot tell the difference between s%$t and shinola.

Your decision to go with the 26 vs the 27 should be based on shell fit without the liner in the boot. also how often you will ski and how aggressively you ski. If you are a one week a year guy, you will not even break the boot in for 2 seasons. If you ski 40 days a year you will be swimming in the size 27 - 30 days into your season...

Also don't forget that the salomons have heat moldable shells and liners which could easily accommodate a larger foot in a smaller boot...
