Like new set of Marker 12.0 Comp bindings.  These are getting harder to find and are more robust than the Xcel binding. Fit Marker piston plate or can be flat mounted.  Perfect for lighter racers, U12, U14 and some U16s also

great deal @ $100 shipped.

Any difference between the Comp 12 and the Comp 16?

I have the Comp 16, and have had it for a few years.  It has given me exemplary performance (set at 7.5 to 8.5), no pre-release, a couple of good releases.

There is a bit more plastic in the heel of the 12 compared to the 16 and the 20.  Also the 12 has the biometric toe.  I normally run 20s and they are bombproof - but they do start at 11:eek.

The 12 is very popular among younger racers, older masters and women

Can you explain the biometric 12 toe compared to the Comp 16 toe?

Strange.  I just looked at the Marker site and it appears both the 12 and 16 come with a "biometric pro" toe.  The 20 comes with a "biometric WC".   Can't find any explanation of what the difference is between the "pro" and "WC".

As I understand it the biometric toe reduces the release pressure during a backward twisting fall. This is one of the things that used to give markers the reputation of "prerelease" when mounted flat because of the ski flexing and changing forward pressure. This was a non issue when mounted on the piston plate.

The WC biometric removes this upward release pressure reduction in the same way the RD tyrolias do . The 18, 20 and 30 comps use the WC toe. I believe it is to give you more bias to retention with more extreme fore/aft changes that you get in the course.

However, when mounted on the piston plate, and forward pressure set properly (1/4-1/2 turn past flush) the biometric is a non issue, despite all the urban legends

I'm guessing the Biometric Pro toe has less reduction in the upwards pressure required for release than the Biometric toe.  My Comp 16, apparently with "Biometric Pro" toe,  mounted on P50 F1s have performed flawlessly.  The last release I had was a couple of years ago.  It happened skiing through a hole caused by spring water coming out of the ground that was not visible looking at the snow covered surface from above.  At about 45 mph, when this hole suddenly grabbed my skis, one ski came off and one stayed on.  The one that stayed on hurt me a bit, but all was okay the next day.

Yes, when they are set up right and on a plate they work pretty well ghost.  The 20s are a really good bombproof binding.  I have about 8 pairs of them in the current rotation, in fact i even mounted one of my Head RD slaloms with them!
