I'd concur with the Aspen area suggestions.

If you're Chicago area skiers, you're used to driving on winter roads to reach the slopes. The drive from Glenwood would seem like a "normal" ski trip.

DO check out the altitude sickness articles and discuss with your physicians the possibility of prescriptions for Diamox. When we lived in Michigan and traveled every spring to the mountains, we used it annually and made the trips with little trouble.
