Blizzard Racing RC Ti Radius @ 178

Thread Starter

Hello All,

I have been trying to find details on the radius of the Blizzard Racing RC Ti skis @ 178.

The only listed radius I can find is 14.5m @ 172.

Does anyone have a set of these or know the details @ 178?

Thanks,

ps. Two emails to Tecnica group have yielded no responses.

I was going to guess no more than 15.0M @ 178cm. I just did some Googling to confirm. 15M is what I found. Typically very little radius difference in a 6cm length difference in a ski like that. Not sure if I could come close to feeling a half meter difference in radius.

Thanks @Muleski , I figured it would be in the 15m range , was looking for confirmation.

Oddly enough weeks after emailing Tecnica Group they replied to my question minutes after posting here.  They have the following listings for the Blizzard Racing line.

 Racing RC Ti

121/71/104(154cm)R=11.5M

121/71/104(160cm)R=12.5M

121/71/104(166cm)R=13.5M

121/71/104(172cm)R=14.5M

121/71/104(178cm)R=15.5M

and

Racing RC Ca

121/70/106(156cm)R=11M

121/70/106(160cm)R=12M

121/70/106(165cm)R=13M

121/70/106(170cm)R=14M

121/70/106(175cm)R=15M

Those figures, based on my experience look a bit "convenient", and perhaps like some marketing……as in exactly one meter radius difference per ski length difference in the skis? Hmmm. Not sure if that math works, but that's above my pay grade.

My hunch is that the places where I saw 15M probably took the "close enough" approach. BTW, I have two pairs of GS cheaters, and have had a number of others. All in the 178cm to 180cm range. The same ski, made by the same company skis a lot differently in a 185cm versus a 180cm, for me. It's got more to do with the layup, I believe, than the radius. I've skied a bunch of them, and have clear preferences, but have never gotten too caught up in the exact radius.

Regardless of whether it's 14.8M. 15.2M, or 15.5M in the 178cm, I doubt if Marchel Hirscher would notice the difference. I presume that you're not making the length selection based on the radius, but on other factors as well….your size, etc.

Good luck. Hope I didn't confuse things…..

Ohh absolutely they are convenient numbers, but how often do you see ski's marketed as 15.2 or 11.3m radius skis?  Did not confuse things at all.  I take every number produced by a manufacturer with a grain of salt.  But it's a good starting point.

I have skied both the 172 and 178, at 6 foot 1 and 210 pounds, I found the 178 much more stable at speed.  However the main reason I am looking at this ski was its finesse / ability cranking out turns at slower speeds.

The funny thing is I am trying to buy a radius,  but for a specific reason.  I have 12m radius SL skiis, and 19m radius GS skis and trying to coach racers that will race predominantly in 14m to 15m radius courses.   All the skiers train on 14m radius skis for GS and most of our training environments are set to 13 to 16m.  Not just training courses,  but all types of training environments.  It would be nice to have a set of skis in that range so I am not constantly extending turns on my SL's or performing some version of a J turn on the GS skis.

So basically what i know now is that the 178 falls somewhere between 14ish and 15.5ish.
