Just waiting for go time

This is the worst time of the preseason for me. Not quite in ski shape, not enough snow to ski in the backcountry safely, lifts not turning yet, new gear :D, skis are waxed, passes are hanging by the door and I have a work schedule with Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays off for the whole winter. It's been a marathon of ski flicks on VHS for 2 months and we are taking in the new TGR movie on Wednesday night. The WROD is sounding pretty enticing to me right about now and I'm not a WROD kinda guy. Let me know I am not alone. What is your preseason like?

I'm in sort of the same boat you are. It's not snow thats stopping me though. I was going to go to killington opening day and then I got an inconveniently timed concussion that put my start to ski season back 16 days. To pass the time I've been watching my entire collection of ski movies. My skis are freshly tuned waiting and resisting the urge to increase the size of my quiver. I've also spent time on google earth playing the game someone should open up a resort here or this would be a great place to open up a heliski operation. The torngat mountains of Canada look like a decent place for a heliski operation. Then I pick out lines in this place I would like to ski

That blows man. Best to heal up first though. I found a nice little mountain southwest of Copper Mountain on Google Earth that is perfect. Naturally separated terrain, nice steeps, open powder fields, open glades with some good intermediate terrain and some flat for the starters. Aaaand I did impulsively buy a pair of Nordica Patrons and bindings last month after binge watching Greg Stump and TGR movies for a week. Those damn first world problems huh?

I'm also gnashing my teeth. A mountain biking injury has kept me from doing most of what I want to do for the last couple of months. It's my shoulder, so I've been pinning all my hopes and dreams on skiing. I *will* be skiing Saturday, crowds be damned.

Sounds like CO may be getting ready to ski. Out in CA, I am praying to ski before Thanksgiving, but I am not holding my breath for it.

Big shot of moisture coming into the West coast this weekend. Stay cold.

The whole calendar runs a month+ later here.  It's much more summer than winter when it was 90F this past weekend, 100F two weeks before that, and the ocean is still 70+.   November is when I start getting restless about skiing, and December 16 is my median first ski day.  In 37 years of skiing, 3 seasons have started in October and 11 in November.  5 did not start until January.

I make up for it on the other end.   Memorial Day skiing at Mammoth is very good (and vastly superior to nearly anyone's opening day) in about 3/4 of seasons, so my median closing day is May 27.   Closing day has been in July or later 10 times, in June another 5 times, and prior to May 7 times.

Well, we went up to Loveland yesterday following about 7" of fresh. Skied one short pitch and patrol was preparing to drop the rope on a new opening. Fresh, untracked for the first run of the season. Snowed lightly all day. Life is good now. My season has begun. :yahoo:
