Josh for head moderator?
So here's a good question. Why is that? Some very thoughtful people are gone, ssh, cirquerider, ac, dchan, and others.
What brought about this change? It seems that during the days that Cirquerider was chief moderator that a lot changed, things have stayed in that vein since he was pushed out. TheRusty continues to moderate in a fair and balanced way.
To me leadership's main influence is in choosing the moderator team. The rest is just fluff.
Nah. I'm still floating around assisting where I can.. Just not listed in the "moderator" list. The rest of the Mod's are doing a great job.. DC
Sorry. But as I've learned better to self-judge than to be judged by others.
That's news to me!. I don't have any kids! At least none of my own!
Lot's of kids that I spent a lot of time raising but unfortunately none of them took to skiing as a primary sport :(
I heard on the QT that they approached PDXPhoenix to take over - but the demand for a Tesla as a company car was a deal breaker...
I don't block ads anywhere, but when they do get bad I don't go back to those sites.
I find the ads here to be extremely low on the annoying scale, and they did take care of those annoying video ads in a reasonable amount of time considering the process it probably had to go through to can them. I am surprised there aren't more actually, especially native content.
I did want to say that I hope these changes and future changes don't wreck your guy's/gal's site. There is a lot of great info here, and the people I met and skied with were always a lot of fun. I hope it continues. I will add: P and T brought a lot of traffic to this site; I spent some time analyzing it. They did that with good and thoughtful content. I have always thought their contribution was extremely valuable. Heck, I wanted to invest money in them. I feel most likely, they were not appreciated/compensated enough by the big wigs, nor did the wigs see their full value and utilize it properly. Anyway, I wish them success wherever they go from here, and I am sure they will find it.
That's right, those annoying video ads aren't coming up anymore, I would always turn down the volume on my computer and ignore 'em. That's a plus.
Yup, Philpug brought a lot, all kinds of info. He would post a detailed impression on various skis; people @ EpicSki would ask him various questions online- like say what would be a good length for me, or will the ski be a good cruiser on hardback, etc. Philpug would always follow up everybody's questions with his opinions on the ski in a reasonably short manner. How 'bout that, you could ask the tester!!
Well, so much for that promise. Maybe tomorrow tomorrow.
Must be an awful LOT of i's to dot and t's to cross.
I suspect that they are handcuffed beyond all possibility to provide anything useful and appeasing to support their decision that couldn't also potentially bring a slander or libel suit. This isn't a threat by the way. I just can't imagine that providing any specific details, even if 100% true and documented, would bring anything but more rage... and possibly lawsuits regardless of what might have been signed by whom whenever..
But then why put that carrot out there setting unrealistic expectations?
So the question in my mind is who will replace Trish and Phil behind the scenes here.
Will their work be absorbed by Heather, who probably has other things on her plate
and who is most likely not a gear head? Or will there be "reorganization" in some way,
with a new hire?
We won't know the full nature of how this forum might change until we find out how
this part plays out. It's certain that the visible presence Phil and Trish maintained as
part of their jobs will not be replicated by whoever takes over their tasks.
I can't imagine the odd feelings T&P must have as they are tempted to post in the content
threads now. It wouldn't surprise me if they stopped posting altogether, and I wouldn't
blame them one bit. If they do stop posting, they will need a new outlet for sharing their
expertise. It's clear there is a huge fan club here willing to follow them wherever they go.
If such an exodus should happen, this may also affect the future character of Epic.
The whole internet business model that relies on user posted content and advertising revenue is becoming questionable.
A new model that actually pays posters for providing content is evolving.
This is being driven by exactly what seems to be going on here.
One suspects that the usual corporate horseshit where control is consolidated after a takeover and the folks that make things work well are forced out for opaque reasons is in play.
Not surprising but the new moderators/content providers are going to have to prove their chops to a skeptical crew.
Most forums like Epic Ski are really driven by a small core of people who care and are very informed.
At least at Facebook you know who is in charge and that revenue optimization is the game.
I don't think we quite know if Epic is moving to a FB model or will stay true to its user driven roots.
Time will tell......
Ya, I checked out the post history here before stirring that pot for kicks. Seems to have taken a long break from there but steady post or several per month for years mostly.
