If you have an SUV or, gasp, minivan and a standard size garage door you might not be able to get your can into or out of your garage depending on the height of the box.

Can't get your car into the garage? No problem.

My garage door is 7' and with my Thule Pulse L (615?) on top of my Chevy Traverse I can't drive in. But it's comes off pretty quick and I rigged up a homemade lift system in my garage using a couple ratchet straps for storage. Not quite as easy as the Thule system with the crank and pulleys, but didn't cost me anything as I had spare ratchet straps laying around.

I've heard of some people having issue when storing a cargo box on side/standing over time or perhaps due to heat? It result in a less than ideal seal. So I wanted to store mine in the proper orientation to be safe. I'll snap a pic and post in case anyone is interested.

i have the thule sonic xl, a little awkward to move, but do-able.  for off season storage, I hang the box in a quiet corner of my garage.  For this,  I installed 2 large hooks in the wall, (screwed into the studs, 16" apart).  then I clamped a 2' section of old clothes rod (wood) in the front clamps of the box.  Now,I just hang the box on the hooks.  works for me...

I used to take mine of in the spring.  Only did that one season.... until it occurred to me that I could keep our fishing poles, tackle boxes, and a camp chairs up there spring, summer, and fall.  Heading to the coast this Saturday with the scouts to fish and camp over the weekend.  That's probably the last camping and fishing expedition until March when the skis get put up..

To install my box on my equinox i had to remove the roof antenna (which as it turns out was the am/fm one, not onstar like i thought).. now i'm struggling to find some 3rd party workaround to only having room to attach something thats 1.5" long and male.. i'm going to give this a try in the meantime.

With the Thule Force XL, there is definitely consideration on parking garages and other clearance levels.. i measured the height on mine as best i could going into my garage, which has a 7' clearance..

My best guess appears that at the rear (highest) seems to be a need for 6'9, whereas more in the middle its 6'8.. i think most parking garages have a 6'8" clearance level.. this on my 4cyl equinox LT 2010.. which sucks cause it appears i'd have to take it off if i knew in advance i was going to park in one (a frequent thing around here).
