Well we all know the forecasters word for this winter, drier and warmer. The weather we are having this mid October certainly looks like they might be right-ugh. Yesterday it was 74 degrees for a high and I was listening to radio and person said the average high for Oct 15th was 58 degrees. Quite a difference! Last year I kept waiting for good snow and it never came, this year I am ready to hit the road and chase some powder. Have Mt. Collective and Powder Alliance deals this year. But, sure hope we get some white stuff here.
I apologize for not being more proactive about meeting you the last 2 seasons. For all I know we might have seen each other on the mountain at Silver or Lookout; maybe even down at Noah's. Since you have been kind enough to offer me support since we got here in Dec. of 13 and I didn't make a lot of effort to meet you I think I owe you some kind of explanation, so I will do that. 13-14 was a good enough season even for someone who moved here from Summit Cty. Colorado. We only skied Silver and didn't even get to Wardner Peak; a total of 9 ski days. We got 14-15 passes for Silver then skied Lookout, FINALLY! and bought 15-16 passes that were also good for the rest of 14-15. February 5th was our last ski day because of conditions; a total of 5 for that season! So, there weren't a lot of opportunities to meet you, complicated by the fact that our skiing had become inhibited after 2 years off, some surgeries and maybe age. That is not really who we are so we have decided that this season we ARE GETTING BACK IN THE SADDLE and making it an epic one.
In order to do that we need epic snow so we have to counter the naysayers, weather people and anyone who believes that the 15-16 season is going to be anything but epic.
So, Pete, and anyone else who reads this, do your Native-American dances or any ritual you are comfortable with; say your prayers, do incantations, etc.for an EPIC season. That's what I'm doing (all of the above) and I will go out of my way to meet you this season. DOWN WITH THE NAYSAYERS!

Not out in the northwest, but I'm right there with you in terms of hoping for the best. Last season here started off with a seemingly endless cycle of a few days in the 20's, then a day or two in the 50's, then repeat. December was mostly mashed potatoes, ice, and crud. Our small local 1k foot hill only had 1 lift and essentially 2 trails open for the first month or so. January on was decent skiing, but bitter cold (relatively speaking, bitter cold for me is -10 or below after wind chill). Fingers crossed.
I am almost 100% ready to ski. SNOW would be nice. Usually we see Lookout opening at Thanksgiving so lets hope we can do that again this year. And, personally I am praying for snow to not be followed by any four letter wet words.
When I say ready I mean Ready: Season Pass at Lookout, Season Pass at Silver, Powder alliance deal with season pass to Stevens Pass and Mountain Collective PASS. The Alliance and Mt Collect passes will take me to: Mt, Wy, Idaho, Ore, Calif., Ariz., N.M., Colorado and Nev. and Utah.
Going to chase some powder.
Ski Swap in CDA. Didn't see anyone I ski with - unusual. I have been putting off getting rid of some older equipment because I don't want to drive in the CDA 3 times to sell a few items.
Did it this year, sold 4 pairs of skis and 2 pairs of old boots. Made 600 dollars and got the old equipment out of my garage and ski room. Missed seeing fellow skiers.
On The Snow. says warmer with a lot of rain Fri and Sat. BUT snow next week and pretty good too. If the rain doesn't wipe out the 6 in. that Lookout has and they get another foot. Maybe they will be open before thanksgiving.
Cleaned up bases, a little Ptex, edge adjustments and wax. My original Blizzards took a real beating last year and now are my Early season rock skis. I am ready to go. Let it Snow.

Supposedly there is 15 inches on the summit snow stake here, but there's no way to tell because the web cams are either fogged in or not functioning. You have to check dates to know what's going on. They redid the summit house and the cams are on that roof, so they keep getting whacked by construction people.
Sounds good. The weather guy at the snow site said good early snow for us Nov and Dec and then a bleak jan-feb with kickin of snow in late march. Thats better than some of the forecasts I have read this year.
See Northstar at tahoe is opening Nov 20th which would be early for them. Thinking maybe Lookout at or before thanksgiving would be nice for us. A foot on top thats a good start.
