*Look Pivot/Rossi fks brake adusting*

Thread Starter

I have a pair of Look Pvot 14 with the XXL 130 brake, the skis thy are going to go on are 90mm.

I have heard bad things about bending them (especially to make them smaller).

So I am wondering if anyone thinks a older look binding like the Look Z3 binding from the 90's?

older ones like the Z3 are in the 70 mm range.  you may be able to swap someone with a 90mm barake who wants to go bigger.

The answer are pretty much in that other thread that you posted in. These brakes don't take well to bending. You can try to bend old Z brakes but will get this effect: \_/ , they don't do (_) very well. I have seen 50% success, with the other 50% breaking..and not in the way you want a brake to brake.

Now, any metal workers out there, if you took the brake arms from a Look and for the same diameter metal then bent them to the right angles and lengths..I bet you could sell tens of them. Oh and then make one for an 85mm ski too.

like this?  except I went wider for a 115mm ski.  but any width is possible.  going narrower would be easier.  the problem with the look Brakes is that they are hardened to prevent them from inadvertent bending.  this makes them more brittle also they are galvanized to prevent rusting.

I did a short write up in the ski Luddite thread. maybe I should cross post the write up to the other LOOK brake thread

Pretty much.

Are you asking if you should use an older binding? The answer is no. A binding from the 90's is way too old. If you're asking about exchanging parts, answer is still no. Frankenbindings are generally not a good idea. Some guys do them, I know, but they're not typically a great plan.

I would check in at your local shop, see if they have any spare brakes kicking around that you can trade the wide ones for. The demand for wide brakes is way higher than narrower brakes at the moment, so bartering a 95mm brake in exchange for your 130mm might not be too difficult. If not, they might sell them to you for cheaper than what you find on evo or amazon.
