Top to bottom skiing at Whistler.

Hi

In a normal season (if there's such a thing) how late would one expect to be able to ski into the village at Whistler. We went there earlier this year (beginning of April) and mid mountain up was great but below was poor.

We are heading back in March 2016.

Regards.

I skied all the way to Creekside last April with very few rocks to dodge. I also skied to the Blackcomb's Excalibur ( I think that is the name) Gondola mid terminal where my truck was parked. I am assuming that it was on man made snow. Lots of time when you can ski the lower mountain the conditions are not all that great. I only skied to Creekside once.

You should definitely be able to ski down to the village in April - it's quite likely that it will be slurpy isothermic mush but then you are only doing it once a day.

We were at W/B in mid-April 2013 and could ski top to bottom the entire time.  Creekside started fine, but had really deteriorated by the end, although you could still manage to ski to the bottom without getting stuck in the mucky muck.  We never downloaded the 5 days we skied.  There was some slush, but it was fine for a closing run.

I almost always download.  The bottom of the mountain is usually inferior to the terrain and snow of the Alpine, so I use up all of my energy on top.  When I'm too wasted to ski any more I just take the ride to the bottom.  I ski with others sometimes who feel like it's some kind of duty or a bragging point to ski top to bottom at the end of the day, but I usually see it as wasted vertical that I could have used for better skiing.

March should be fine.In a normal season you can ski down until the end of April. They fire up the guns up all season to keep the ski outs to the village open. Last year was an anomaly and even then the ski out was open until the end of March.

As usual, it depends on the year. My early March trip allowed to into the main village, but the late march trip downloading was HIGHLY recommended, and the early april trip it was non-existent.
