There are a handful of helmets meeting the new FIS standards for U14 and up racers. Wading through the marketing stuff. Are they all basically the same or are some markedly better/safer than others.
From what I can tell, these are the models that have the sticker this year:
- Briko Vulcano FIS Helmet
- Head Stivot Race Helmet
- POC Skull Orbic X Helmet
- POC Skull Orbic Comp Helmet
- Shred Mega Brain Bucket RH Helmet
- Rossignol Hero 9 FIS Helmet
- Uvex Race+ Helmet
- Bolle Podium Helmet
- Atomic Redster WC Helmet
The Briko has what they call "Protetto" which is a panel in the rear that is suppose to increase protection in the back of the head and reduce incidence of concussion..
The POC helmets boast a lot of technology based on maintaining protection after multiple impacts and the top of the line expensive ($380) Orbic Comp adds VPD in the front.
So, if you fall backward you go with the Briko and if you fall forward the POC?
The others' websites just say they meet the FIS standards.
Any of you experts have any recommendations or insight?
