Right Race boot for lighter weight, young ski racer

Thread Starter

I am looking for a good race boot that will provide the both the right kind of performance and support for a young ski racer along with a soft enough flex. In the past, I have seen kids try to flex their ankles in order to initiate a turn, but with some lighter weight (10, 11, 12 year old kids) they just did not have the overall weight or strength to flex forward on the boot. Do you have any suggestions for race boots that you would recommend for young ski racers that are not too stiff?

For young, light weight athletes the key to development is being able to use the ankle.  For a bean pole kid, 100 flex is often too much.  We have found the Jr Lange boots in the 60 and 70 flex range do a lot to help the youngster develop touch and balance.  As they grow and fill out, the sstiffer junior boots will add power when the kids know how to move through the shell.

cheers,
