Killington's opening was a class act.  Mounds of soft bumps.  Those whose legs were in good shape looked like the abominable snowman by the end of a day skiing under intense bombardment by guns spaced about every 30 feet.  Lunch was on the house and mountain ambassadors handed out beverages and cookies in the (very short) lift line.

To ensure that we got our exercise for the day, Killington graciously opened the "stairway to heaven" to allow us to hike up and out with our gear before downloading on the K-1 gondola.

Mike Solimano is the man!  He and his superb staff have turned Killington around.  (They even have gone so far to please a customer as to retain some old infrastructure just so that Highway Star has something to carp about on 5 internet forums each year.  That's customer service!)

Well, folks, Killington is closed.

And Sunday River has nothing open. Which I guess also equals closed.

Therefore, I submit to you that Loveland is going to be the first to open with continuous operations on Thursday. Unless A-Basin wants to tie...but I think A-Basin has decided to avoid an Epic shitshow by not rushing things.

I bet Abay will open Friday or Saturday and let Loveland have the hordes this year.

Yeah now that you mention it, Thursday is probably the day to go.

Epic shitshow. Lol

Can't be much worse than last year though, with only 3/4ths of high noon open.

I'm praying for Abay to open by Saturday to keep the hordes out of Loveland.

I wonder how many VR holders will pay at LUV vs. waiting for A-Basin? Don't think this has happened since A-Basin joined the Epic Pass?

I'm thinking Friday. As in 'not opening day' and 'not first weekend' but 'still October'. Especially if A-Basin opens on Friday, then maybe it's a sleeper day at LUV. I say that relatively.

If next week were still in Oct, then I would just plan for Monday or Tuesday either way.

So A-Basin and Loveland in a tie. One of them should open at midnight. It is only a day past the full moon and skies should be clear tonight.

Call it the White Thursday early sales event.

I know where I'd be today if I was in CO lol.

Why am I at work today? Blue bird, opening day, minimal crowds.

Hell, Patrol bowl looks skiable :).

It's awful.

Tommyknocker has a tasting tent up, too.

That's more than a taste. The pumpkin seasonal is good.

That may be true, but I happen to know when you arrived - the lines were a lot worse than what you saw. Nothing like A Basin, though.

Yea, I guess I should add that I started skiing at 12:30. Not sure how long @bounceswoosh had to wait tops.

But....keep in mind, loveland had a fixed grip triple open, and 2 trails (technically 4, but 1 path down along with spillway), while A-Basin had a high speed quad and only high noon open, which resulted in a lot more uphill traffic and thus skiers per acre downhill.

From the pics I see, did high noon even have full side to side coverage?

10ish minutes was the worst I experienced at Loveland today.
