Has anyone been on these? If so, what did you think?
'On the Snow' praised the 80 but hedged on the 85, calling it "jittery" at speed. Really?
As far as the "Jittery at Speeds" comment, Nth degree speeds are the limit for most of the skis in this category. The iKonic is of the finesse, playful end of the scale. There is nothing wrong with that, it comes down to the characteristics you are looking for. Both of these skis were tested on different days in different conditions, one of the days was a no snow day, one had about 6" of fresh. half the group tested skis each day. I don't which day that tester skied the skied each ski. Any ski has speed limitations, what it might be for an Ex-Racer or PSIA III or Examiner as even a strong all mountain skier. So between these two skis, it really comes down to how you have your quiver set up and what are you complementing.
Modern would be the one word I would use. If you didn't know better, the 82 could have been the old Recon...it was just warmed over. The new iKonic's are more playful and brighter in feel. I really liked the nimbleness of them.
Skied bothe the 85 TI and the 80 TI on an indoor slope a few weeks ago. Loved the 85: between the old Rictors 90 and 82, leaning towards the 82: stable, easy to ski, playful.
I found the 80 quite squirly. Like there was no camber at all. Maybe it has to do with the partial sidewall (the 85 has a full sidenwall).
