Ski Rental in St. Anton

Hi All,

I'm currently setting up a trip to St. Anton for late feb/early march of 2016.  I'm looking for suggestions for ski rental shops with higher end offerings.(I'll be bringing my boots from the states).  Ideally, I'd like a set up where I could switch skis out during the day/week depending on conditions.

We'll be stayin close to the Nasserein lift.

Thanks very much.

Just about every rental operation in St Anton offers high end skis and the option to swap out as often as you like at no charge.  If you are staying at a hotel, check with them for a recommendation.  There should be a discount offered by the shops to hotel guests so ask about that too.

Are they all carvers? Just curious.

From what I saw in 2013 it looked like you could find just about anything, but not unlike here. some shops offer a better selection than others.

I was only there three days, and while the 112 waist D-Senders were perfect for the 18" of fresh the first day, they were definitely overkill for the two remaining. The OP bringing just boots is probably a great idea, provided the shop he chooses has a decent selection. Unfortunately I can't offer any shop suggestions, but sounds like you're on the right track by checking with the hotel.

FWIW, that trip convinced me that I needed a 100mm waist, tapered, cambered, early rise tip/tail ski to cover most bases for situations where I can only bring one pair. Interchangeable with a 90mm waist ski with all the same attributes on low snow years/areas.

This pages lists all rental shops in St. Anton. Just check them out and send some emails with your questions. My experience is that they reply fast and in English.

I also asked a friend of mine who lives there. Maybe she has some suggestions as well. Will get back with info when I get it.

Jennewein seems to be highly spoken of. Warning though ski rental in St Anton is a cartel racket and vastly more expensive than most other places in Europe.

My frind also recommends Sport Jennewein for all kinds of ski's, also the (in Europe) lesser knoown brands such as Black Diamond, Black Crows etc. She says that if conditions change, you can just go in the shop and get a different pair more suited for the conditions.

Jennewein, Intersport, and Alber Sport are the three biggest companies in the area, but there are a few other decent shops on the main street as well. Keep in mind that the big three have multiple locations in town.

If you're going to be skiing off piste and you're looking for some wider skis, one of those companies (I think Alber Sport) has a shop specializing in freeride stuff on Kandaharweg. Just make your way toward the Galzig lift and you'll see it on the street before.

There's also a rental shop just to the left of the Galzig lift that has a pretty big selection and convenient ski storage. However, keep in mind that there will be a big crowd picking up skis every morning and dropping them off every afternoon. A lot of hotels and B&Bs offer vouchers for ski storage there, so even people not renting from there use their storage. I personally prefer keeping my skis in my B&B and carrying them to the lifts just so I don't have to deal with the crowd in that place.
